Bachelor: Colton Underwood Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Colton Underwood announced on Twitter on Friday that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The former lead of The Bachelor is perhaps the biggest reality star to reveal the sobering news.

Grappling with the fact that yet another well-known TV personality has the virus brings us that much closer to the inevitability that we will all personally know someone, at some point, who has tested positive for coronavirus. Over the past week, we have learned that COVID-19 does not only afflict the elderly. The diagnosis of NBA player and accidental hero Rudy Gobert created a domino effect that has led to the cancellation of sporting events, the closing of schools and businesses and the rescheduling of reality television filming. Following a wild ending to this season of The Bachelor, Chris Harrison said The Bachelorette would delay filming on its new season. Clare Crawley's suitors were revealed this past week, but Harrison has since stated that the show would likely recast in light of having to make the show happen at a later date. For now, there are more important things to worry about than whether or not they will cast some men for Clare who are a little bit older.

Colton shared his story on his Twitter account, urging everyone to stay home. He told his followers, "I'm 28. I consider myself pretty healthy. I workout regularly. I eat healthy, and I became symptomatic a few days ago. Got my test results back today and they are positive." He said he recently started getting symptoms and that it has been "kicking my a**."

The former NFL player claimed he can't walk up a flight of stairs without losing his breath and can't go to the bathroom without feeling like he needs to sit down. He wanted to be clear why he was spreading the news. Colton said, "The reason I'm sharing this is not to cause fear or panic, but to hopefully encourage you guys to stay at home. Do your part. Take care of yourselves. Take care of one another." He was at Cassie Randolph's family's house in Huntington Beach, California. The two have been dating since his season ended in early 2019.

For reality TV fans who are frustrated that there will be no Bachelor or Bachelorette for a long while, Colton shows the reason why proceeding with taping Clare's season isn't worth the risk. The virus can affect anybody, young and old, and it's up to us to work together to do all we can to mitigate the risk so we can go back to watching our regularly scheduled programming as soon as possible.
