Seed Of Chucky Almost Featured Quentin Tarantino As Himself

Seed of Chucky, the sixth entry in the Child's Play horror franchise, almost cast Oscar-nominated director Quentin Tarantino as himself. Chucky may not get the same level of respect from Hollywood that slashers like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, or Michael Myers do, but he's unquestionably proven to have staying power, and a loyal fanbase. The murderous doll formerly known as Charles Lee Ray (voiced by Brad Dourif) has so far starred in seven feature films, and will soon return for an event TV series on Syfy. There was also of course a Child's Play remake in 2019, but those involved with the original series have all disavowed it.

While the premise of a doll killing people obviously lends itself to comedy, the first few Child's Play films really weren't that funny, at least in anything but a black comedy sort of way. 1998's Bride of Chucky saw the franchise take a firm left turn into humor, going for lots of one-liners and lowbrow sight gags. Still, Bride of Chucky was a fun movie, and was successful, leading to 2004's Seed of Chucky, which ramped up the comedy to eleven.

Seed of Chucky remains the most divisive entry in the Child's Play franchise, as for some, the comedy included is uproariously funny, and for others, it makes the film entirely too silly and stupid. One thing's for sure though, Seed of Chucky was willing to try lots of crazy things for a joke, including going meta and casting celebrities as themselves. This almost included the one and only Quentin Tarantino.

In Seed of Chucky, actress Jennifer Tilly plays not only Chucky's doll bride Tiffany, but a version of herself, Hollywood actress Jennifer Tilly. Tilly actually plays the human version of Tiffany in a film based on Bride of Chucky, in one of the most meta scenarios in horror history. Later on, Tilly attempts to seduce rapper Redman, attempting to win a part in his directorial debut. When the two begin to have sex, Chucky and Tiffany knock them out and inseminate Tilly with Chucky's semen, later leading to the birth of twins. The plan had been to have Chucky and Tiffany then transfer their souls into Redman and Tilly, but that didn't come to pass.

While Redman's role in the film is fairly amusing, it turns out that Seed of Chucky writer/director Don Mancini first offered the role in that sequence to Quentin Tarantino. He had never met Tarantino, but, as Mancini tells it, he wrote the director a letter pitching him on appearing in the film, promising him days of making out with Jennifer Tilly on set, a cool death scene, and a score by acclaimed composer Pino Donaggio. Mancini never heard back directly, but Tarantino's reps contacted him later, declining the role. While Mancini wasn't surprised Tarantino turned him down, it almost seems crazy enough for Tarantino to have wanted to do it. Maybe he was too busy.
