The Rise Of Skywalker: Oscar Isaac Not Surprised By Reaction To Film

Oscar Isaac isn't surprised by fans' divisive reactions to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Following hotly contested installments like 2017's The Last Jedi and 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story, the final film in the Skywalker saga and in Disney's first Star Wars trilogy was always bound to cause a stir among fans. However, The Rise of Skywalker led to even more mixed reactions than people might have expected, with the problems starting when the film earned the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score out of the entire live-action Star Wars franchise.

Fans themselves were torn when the final product entered theaters, with some approving of how director J.J. Abrams and his team wrapped up the saga and others expressing their immense disappointment. It didn't help when story details from the script initially written by Colin Trevorrow, who was the original director of The Rise of Skywalker, emerged online. Fans began to wonder if Trevorrow's version would have been superior to Abrams', prompting even more debates online.

Now one of the actors from The Rise of Skywalker is sharing his thoughts. Isaac played hotshot pilot-turned-general Poe Dameron in all three sequel trilogy films. While speaking to MTV News at Sunday's Academy Awards, Isaac was asked about his feelings toward the intense reception to The Rise of Skywalker and if he was surprised by it. Isaac replied by saying, "Not really. You know, it was the same on the movie before that as well. You know - it means a lot to people, so." Isaac was then asked if he feels the criticism was justified, and he said, in a joking manner, "Yeah, look. Was there some crying in the shower? Yes!"

Isaac almost seemed to agree that some of the intense fan reactions were justified. While promoting the film, Isaac spoke up about his disappointment that Disney refused to let Poe and John Boyega's Finn become a romantic couple, which many fans had been hoping for since they first appeared in The Force Awakens. Isaac possibly could have been referring to that, or he simply could be agreeing that all fans have the right to form their own opinions about things, even if they are negative.

The Rise of Skywalker has brought out lots of varying opinions, including from its cast members. Most notably, Boyega has taken to social media to share his apparent dislike for "Reylo," the paring of Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Isaac's response to intense Star Wars fans is fair, and it's good to see he's taking it all in stride. It's impossible to please everyone, and Star Wars has countless fans who all wanted the trilogy to go a certain way. While it might have left the fanbase divided, at least it provided fans with adorable Babu Frik.
