Dolittle Posters Feature Absurd Robert Downey Jr. & Tom Holland Reunion

Next year's Dolittle will feature the reunion of Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland - just in a slightly unconventional way. Downey and Holland are best known for their roles in the MCU, where they play Tony Stark and Peter Parker, respectively. The two characters formed a father-son-like bond over several movies, and audiences were heartbroken when Tony died in Avengers: Endgame not long after Peter came back to life. The relationship between the actors in real life is just as heartfelt, and fans have hoped the two would collaborate on a project again in the future. Now, they've gotten their wish.

Hitting theaters on January 17, Dolittle is the latest adaptation of the classic literary character. Dr. John Dolittle (Downey) can speak to animals. After the death of his wife, he hides himself away from the world with only his colorful menagerie for companionship. However, when the queen falls ill, Dolittle is recruited for a quest to a mythical island to find a cure. Along the way, he finds his way back from his grief with the help of animals both old and new.

A slew of character posters reveal the film's massive voice cast and the animals they will be inhabiting. Holland voices a dog named Jip, while performers such as Rami Malek (Chee-Chee the gorilla), Emma Thompson (Polynesia the parrot), and Octavia Spencer (Dab-Dab the duck) help fill out Dolittle's companions. Also featured in the film are Kumail Nanjiani (Plimpton the ostrich), Ralph Fiennes (Barry the tiger), and John Cena (Yoshi the polar bear). Check out the new character posters for Dolittle below:

Rounding out the cast are Marion Cotillard, Selena Gomez, and Craig Robinson. It's an all-star group with Downey, one of the most popular actors working right now, at the center. This is his first post-MCU movie and also his first non-MCU film since The Judge in 2014. While it won't be quite the same as seeing Downey and Holland side-by-side, having them in the same film is bound to give fans a thrill.

With Dolittle being released in just under two months, promotion for the film is bound to begin in earnest soon. The reveal of these character posters (a common practice for major films these days) will likely interest audiences with the fun animal designs and impressive cast list. Of course, the presence of Downey alone could also draw in viewers, especially now that people are mourning Tony. Reports of extensive reshoots, however, haven't inspired much confidence in the film. There is still plenty of time to gain supporters before Dolittle hits theaters though; anything can change in two months.
