James Wan addresses comments that the extended Aquaman trailer may have just given away spoilers. Marking the end of the long hiatus from the DCEU, the upcoming superhero film reunites fans with Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry after he joined Batman (Ben Affleck) and company in Justice League. The film will serve as the character's origin story as he returns to Atlantis in the hopes of claiming his place as the rightful king of the underwater civilization. Unfortunately, it won't be a walk in the park for the hybrid with Patrick Wilson's Orm/Ocean Master standing in his way.
With less than the three months away from hitting theaters, Warner Bros. and DC Films are kicking their promotional efforts a notch higher with the release of a five-minute extended look at Aquaman. The trailer provided fans with a good look at Arthur and Mera's (Amber Heard) dynamic as they search for the missing Trident of Neptune, as well as an action-packed sequence involving an encounter between the pair and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's David Hyde/Black Manta and his minions. While many dug the clip, including comic book writer Mark Millar, there are some who weren't exactly thrilled that it seemed to have given away possible spoilers. Now, Wan is answering back, saying that it's not the case.

Wan took it to his official Twitter account and addressed people's criticisms about the extended Aquaman trailer supposedly revealing way too much. The filmmaker explained that "trailers contain spoilers by nature" and advised those who want to see a movie totally unaware to skip watching them altogether. He also reassured fans that "5-min trailer barely scratches the surface of the actual movie." Read his full tweet below:
In comparison, Marvel Studios and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming was also plagued with the issue after the release of the film's second trailer. Despite that, it turned out it was still able to save the movie's biggest plot twist, with the reveal that Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes/Vulture was the father of Liz (Laura Harrier), Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) crush. Like Wan said, the trailer barely revealed anything from Aquaman, so there might still be other plot points in the film that he and Warner Bros. are saving for people to discover in theaters.
Many didn't expect that the trailer will reveal Momoa wearing the classic Aquaman costume and wielding the trident, which was the final shot of the clip. But considering that the latest poster already teased the full reveal, not to mention the officially unveiled Sideshow Collectible figure featuring Arthur sporting the whole ensemble, it didn't make much sense to save the bit for the film itself especially since people were also expecting it. Regardless, the trailer did its job fueling the hype for the film further and convincing countless who were still on the fence about Aquaman to give it a fair shot.
