The Good Place Season 3 Images: New Characters & A New State of Affairs

A new batch of images from The Good Place season 3 introduces a brand new character and establishes the new state of affairs for Eleanor, Chidi and the others. The upcoming season promises yet another new set of circumstances for its main characters, as they make their way from the afterlife to the mother of a mulligans back on Earth. That much was recently teased in a brand new poster for the show that left the Good and Bad Place behind for a brand new timeline that’s all about second chances.

The series’ second season ended with another fascinating wrinkle in the (after) lives of its main characters, as Maya Rudolph’s Judge determined the group of not great but not truly awful people deserve a shot at proving they learned something that may lead them to make better life choices — provided they’re still alive, of course. And with that, Mike Schur’s philosophical comedy prepares to begin its third season by once again upending the status quo.

In an interview with EW, Schur discussed the new storyline and provided a little context for a batch of images from season 3. Schur explained that newcomer Kirby Howell-Baptiste — who has been on a great run recently with roles in HBO’s Barry and BBC America’s Killing Eve — will play a neuroscientist helping Chidi, who is in the midst of another existential crisis. Other images include Tahani looking serene, and Jason dancing it up (presumably in Florida), but, as Schur says, he’s begun “to question whether or not anything he’s done really matters.” Check out the images below:

One new image that stands out is that of Ted Danson’s Michael talking with a new character, known as the Doorman, played by Mike O’Malley (Survivor’s Remorse, Raising Hope). The Doorman is a fitting name, as the character watches the door that connects the afterlife to Earth, and is presumably keeping Michael from interfering too much in the collective mulligan that’s going on.

In all, it looks as though season 3 of The Good Place will continue to alter the characters’ circumstances in order to see whether or not they really can change and what, if anything, they learned about being better people — the kind deserving of a spot in the Good Place.
