Red Dead Redemption 2 Publisher Says it Will Redefine the Gaming Industry

Red Dead Redemption 2's publisher, Take-Two Interactive is nothing but confident with the forthcoming sequel, saying that it will redefine the gaming industry. As the release for the Western-themed action-adventure video game nears, people behind the title are starting to hype it up. Just last month, the CEO of the New York-based software company, Strauss Zelnick, said that he believes the sequel will be a big hit. Now, he goes as far as saying that it will significantly change the landscape of the gaming industry.

Scheduled to be released for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this October, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been a long time coming. Following the highly-successful Red Dead Redemption from 2010, the sequel was announced by developer Rockstar Games in 2016. Set in 1899, the prequel title will shift the focus to outlaw Arthur Morgan - a member of the Dutch Van der Linde gang, as he attempts to evade both federal agents, as well as bounty hunters. That said, the franchise's main lead John Marston is still expected to appear.

During an earnings call yesterday, Zelnick hyped up the release of the much-anticipated sequel as reported by GameSpot. While he didn't reveal anything specific about the game, he shared that Red Dead Redemption 2's goal is to provide gaming entertainment all around the globe that will also "redefine the industry." Here's what he said:

"We fully expect the October 26 launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 to mark yet another creative milestone in Rockstar Games’ renowned history, and will further illustrate their ability to deliver entertainment experiences that redefine the industry and captivate audiences throughout the world.”

"Red Dead Redemption 2 is Rockstar Games' first title developed from the ground up for the current console generation," Take-Two said. "We could not be more excited about the upcoming launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, which is poised to be another massive entertainment event."

Other game developers understand the massive buzz surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 which is why other companies have consciously moved their rival game releases far away from the last week of October, not wanting to take the chances of being overshadowed by Rockstar's upcoming project. With a wide time period all to themselves, the game is expected to rack great sales for Take-Two. In fact, NPD predicts that the sequel will be the best-selling game of the year. Having said that, it's unlikely that it will top Grand Theft Auto V's sales record which has sold nearly 100 million units since it launched on PS4 back in September 2013.

Special editions for Red Dead Redemption 2 were previously announced, including a pack priced at $79.99 which will have the game, two exclusive missions, a real-world map of the game's setting, plus a special case. Meanwhile, a $99.99 Ultimate Edition will include all the aforementioned items, as well as bonus outfits, an extra horse, a new theme, extra weapons and rank bonuses. Microsoft Store also gave away several other perks, alongside $500,000 for Grand Theft Auto Online for those who pre-ordered the game by July 31.
