Actor Brandon McKnight has been promoted to a series regular for The Flash season 7. The second half of The Flash season 6 has seen Barry Allen and his team coming to terms with living on the newly-created Earth-Prime and new threats in the form of the criminal organization Black Hole and the mirror-manipulating machinations of Eva McCulloch. New allies have also been introduced - with McKnight debuting as Chester P. Runk in The Flash season 6 premiere as a DIY scientist unwittingly afflicted with dangerous super-powers.
According to Deadline, fans can expect to see more of him in the already-confirmed seventh season. McKnight has since returned twice since his debut. His last appearance was in episode 13, "Grodd Friended Me", standing in for absent Team Flash members. As well as using his tech expertise to build a device to save both Barry and Grodd, he bonded with Caitlin over second chances and helped Barry locate his parents displaced graves. In the episodes most crowd-pleasing moment, Chester was also allowed to man the comms station at S.T.A.R. Labs.
With The Flash season 6 still firmly in motion, there's little word on what fans can expect from season 7. As such, it's unclear whether McKnight will be stepping up to replace an exiting cast member. Whatever the case, the news will delight many. In the wake of his latest appearance especially, McKnight was deemed a breath of fresh air and somebody audiences hoped to see more of.
The Flash is part of The CW's wider collection of DC comics shows known as the Arrowverse. The series stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Frost, Hartley Swayer as Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, and Tom Cavanagh as Nash Wells.
The Flash returns Tuesday, March 10 at 8 pm on The CW.
