League of Legends, the hugely popular MOBA by Riot Games, is bringing back the old fan-favorite One for All mode in its 10.6 update. One for All first made its way into the game at the end of 2013. Although the mode periodically comes and goes, as is common with League of Legends' rotating and seasonal game modes, it's now been a full two years since the mode last made an appearance.
As the name suggests, One for All pits two teams of five players against each other, but the twist is that all five players on the same team fight as the same League of Legends champion. Before a match begins, each team's players vote for which champion they would like to play as, and the champion with the most votes wins. Because the mode lacks the natural balancing of other modes that have a diverse range of champions on the same team, Riot has made changes to some characters' abilities in One for All mode specifically.
League of Legends players can jump into One for All Mode right now on the Public Beta Environment (PBE), according to a game announcement on Twitter. Two of Riot's game designers who work on Modes have been tweeting about it, noting their excitement and that they're looking for early PBE players' feedback as they improve the game. The mode will also include "new faces to see and new combos to try," as Riot Games designer Geoff Marsi tweeted.
This news is a light and happy contrast to the serious accusations Riot Games has been facing lately. Most news of late has been focused primarily on the gender discrimination lawsuits Riot Games has been facing, which don't seem to be letting up any time soon. Meanwhile, a recent League of Legends survey, polling 3,800 players, has revealed that almost every single one of those players has been harassed while playing League of Legends at some point. Despite these problems, League of Legends has remained one of the most played games of all time, due in no small part to the inclusion of Teamfight Tactics, a built-in game mode that's been drawing in 33 million monthly players. Now, the return of One for All mode offers a little humor to fans who keep coming back, despite the controversies.
One for All mode has been a hilarious mode with all players fighting as the same champion, inspiring players in the past to stream funny moments and create compilations of some of the best One for All matches. It's no wonder that the last date this mode was available was April Fool's Day 2018, a day Riot Games annually celebrates with featured skins and game modes. With April Fool's Day coming up again soon, it seems the perfect time for League of Legends to bring One for All back, and the mode will officially make its way into the game with the 10.6 patch on March 18th.
