Game Of Thrones: 10 People Jon Snow Should Have Been With Other Than Daenerys

The HBO fantasy show Game of Thrones featured a lot of couples, with some of those more romantic and others far less. One of the most prominent relationships happened in the last, eighth season of the show between Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow. These two seemed like a great couple with natural chemistry between them and difficult life experiences which brought them closer.

However, when Daenerys found out that Jon had a bigger claim to the throne than her, their relationship soured. One could argue that there were better matches for Jon than his aunt, so here are ten people Jon Snow should have been with other than Daenerys.

10 Brienne Of Tarth

Granted, Brienne of Tarth isn't the type of woman Jon seems to like (he seems to prefer his partners petite and fiery), but these two actually have more in common than you might think at the first glance. They both come from noble families but felt overlooked and pushed to the side for most of their lives - Jon because he thought he was a bastard and Brienne because she wanted to be a knight but couldn't and also because other people considered her ugly. They're also both honorable, good fighters and usually try to help others, even if it means endangering themselves in the process.

9 Gilly

Jon isn't the type of person to go around seducing his best friend's girlfriends, so this relationship remains entirely in the realm of 'what-ifs' and imagines (and perhaps fanfictions as well). On the relatively few occasions when Jon and Gilly interact in the show, they seem to get along well and had they spent more time together, who knows how close they could have become. Then again, after the horrid experience with her father, Gilly was probably looking for someone more stable, and Jon does have the unfortunate tendency to throw himself straight into danger, which makes him very different from Sam.

8 Margaery

Margaery Tyrell, unfortunately, met her a rather gruesome end in the show when she died in an explosion alongside many other King's Landing citizens. But before she died, she was one of the most interesting Game of Thrones female heroes. Margaery was a real friend to Sansa in times when Sansa had no-one else. And yes, Margaery could have been calculative at times and she knew very well how to manipulate people, but that was a necessity in the court filled with intrigue and betrayal. Jon has a soft spot for strong women, which is a description Margaery fits one hundred percent.

7 Sansa

Yes, these two are related, albeit not as closely as both Sansa and Jon originally believed, so it might not be the ideal couple, but it'd still work better than Jon and Daenerys, at least to a certain degree. At the beginning of the series, Sansa isn't terribly fond of Jon, and while you can't say she's hostile to him, like her mom Catelyn, she also isn't friendly.

However, as time progresses, she changes from a spoiled young girl to a strong woman and she and Jon find mutual respect for each other in the end when they fight side by side in the battle against the White Walkers.

6 Arya

One Stark sister already appeared on this list so why not include the second one as well? In many ways, Arya and Jon would be an even better couple than Jon and Sansa. Unlike her older sister, Arya never looked badly at Jon and these two were always close, even when they were just children. Jon had a lot of patience and kindness for his "sister" who was tomboyish and wanted to play with sword, not to dance and sing and wear pretty clothes. When they reunite again, their happiness at seeing each other is absolutely genuine and speaks of a strong bond even the years apart couldn't erase.

5 Lyanna

Yes, Lyanna Mormont is a bit too young for Jon but if he was willing to wait a few years for her and if Lyanna didn't die in the battle against the White Walkers, these two could have clicked together well. They talk to each other multiple times in the series and while Lyanna is somewhat distrustful towards Jon at first, he gains her respect later on. Lyanna may be young but she's one of the most badass characters in the show, which is saying a lot considering Game of Thrones is filled with so many badass heroes, both men, and women.

4 Myrcella

Unfortunately, the Game of Thrones' viewers didn't get to see much of Myrcella before she was poisoned and died. But had she lived and Jon decided to make an advantageous marriage for an alliance after revealing his true heritage to the world, these two would have made an interesting couple.

Myrcella is certainly beautiful and she seems much kinder and well-spirited than her mother Cersei. It's difficult to say if Myrcella and Jon would get along well, but there's no real reason why they shouldn't. Jon usually treats other people around him with respect, and Myrcella probably would be no exception.

3 Missandei

Missandei was madly in love with Grey Worm and he returned her feelings, so there was never any real chance for her and Jon to become a couple in the first place. However, this list is about women who would have been a better match for Jon than Daenerys, and Missandei definitely fits that category. She's strong, resilient, kind, beautiful, smart, and she seems much more balanced than her mistress and Jon's partner and aunt Daenerys. Just like so many other unfortunate heroines on this list, Missandei dies a cruel death but had she lived and was free, she and Jon could have made it work.

2 Yara

Just like Brienne, Yara Greyjoy doesn't seem like Jon's usual type but it's still possible these two might hit it off.... even though Yara seems to have a soft spot for the ladies as well. Yara might make fun of Jon when they would first meet and she might not take him seriously but she values strength and Jon is certainly a formidable fighter. If they fought a common enemy together, she might start to respect him. Yara shares many traits with other women Jon liked, she's fierce, powerful, open-minded, not afraid of anything and has the tendency to say what she means.

1 Ygritte

In the end, the best choice for Jon always was and always will be Ygritte. The fire-kissed fighter and Jon didn't get along well when they first met but they soon built up mutual respect and the chemistry between them raged on so strongly that Jon even broke his vow of abstinence because of Ygritte. But their relationship was far more than just a fling, these two actually seemed genuinely in love, that's one of the reasons why it was so heartbreaking when Ygritte died in Jon's arms. At least their actors, Kit Harrington, and Rose Leslie got their happy ending when they started dating and later married.
