Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Gets Rated, Releasing Soon?

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition has been rated by the South Korean ratings board, suggesting that the upcoming Switch exclusive may arrive sooner than anticipated. This modern remaster of the classic Wii JRPG was announced during a Nintendo Direct last year.

The original Xenoblade Chronicles was one of the greatest (and rarest) JRPGs of the past decade. At first, the Wii exclusive was only available in Japan due to Nintendo's perception that Western players wouldn't be interested in it. Of course, this wasn't true – a large fan campaign called Operation Rainfall was formed, dedicated to getting Xenoblade Chronicles localized. The campaign became a success, but even when Nintendo released the US version in 2012, the game only got an extremely limited print. Nonetheless, the stellar reviews from critics and glowing impressions from early adopters made it a must-own for JRPG fans.

GamingBolt has now reported that the Switch remaster of the game may be coming sooner than expected. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition has been officially rated by South Korea's video game ratings board, which typically happens when games are very close to release. There hasn't been any direct confirmation of a launch date from Nintendo, but this suggests that we may hear something from the company in the near future.

Nintendo's next major game will be Animal Crossing: New Horizons in March. After that, the schedule of upcoming Switch games is looking pretty barren, which lends some credence to the possibility that Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will come out within the next few months. The remaster will include all of the content from the original classic with enhanced visuals and some "additional features." These new features have not yet been detailed, but they might be derived from other entries in the series like the underplayed Xenoblade Chronicles X and the better-known Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

This Definitive Edition will make a historically excellent JRPG available to a much wider audience. Even when Xenoblade Chronicles was rereleased in 2015, the port was exclusively made for the New Nintendo 3DS XL (which not many people bought). General awareness of the Xenoblade series has grown over the years, starting with protagonist Shulk's appearance in Super Smash Bros. and increasing with later titles. The sooner that Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition comes out, the sooner a new generation of players can see where it all began.
