Wonder Woman 1984 Gold Eagle Armor Fully Revealed In New Image

A still from Wonder Woman 1984 reveals a closer look at the gold armor worn by Gal Gadot's titular hero in the film. Gadot returns for the highly-anticipated sequel, alongside Chris Pine, under the helm of Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. The DCEU franchise also adds The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal, as business mogul Maxwell Lord, and SNL's Kristen Wiig, as The Cheetah.

Wonder Woman 1984 jettisons the first film's World War I setting in favor of the gnarly neon shopping malls of the 80s, and the first trailer for the movie indicates the visual style will fully embrace the nostalgia-fueled adventure. The over-the-top 80's imagery is only a part of how the sequel plans to top the original. The film's also added superpowered villains like The Cheetah, the mysterious return of Pine's Steve Trevor (who died in the first film), and the appearance of Diana's golden eagle armor. The character's iconic outfit is painstakingly re-created from the panels of Wonder Woman's DC Comic book roots.

Diana's gold armor usually appears in the comics when she's gearing up for a massive battle. It first appeared in a 1996 Elseworlds miniseries by Alex Ross called 'Kingdom Come," but the costume isn't anything other than a cool looking suit of armor; at least that's the story in the comics. Unlike her comic book counterpart, movie Wonder Woman doesn't have the ability to fly (although she can jump really high), so perhaps in Wonder Woman 1984 the winged suit will grant her the power of flight.

The film's marketing strategy leans heavily on images of Diana in the armor, so it isn't surprising merchandise based on the costume is already available to pre-order. Warner Bros. probably wanted to avoid a Baby Yoda situation forcing them to choose between keeping the armor a secret but not having any merchandise available, or spoiling the film's armor reveal. Their choice to focus on Diana's new look gives fans something to look forward to seeing in action on the big screen, but that doesn't mean Wonder Woman 1984 isn't keeping some secrets for the film's premiere.
