Taika Waititi is getting some added input on Thor: Love and Thunder with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson hired to help write the script. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to mostly focus on a new guard of heroes like Doctor Strange and Black Panther, but some of the original Avengers will still play a role. Most notably, Chris Hemsworth's Thor still appears to have a bright future with the MCU after the reinvention of the God of Thunder that came from Waititi.
After the Russo brothers handled Thor in the Avengers films, Waititi will once again shape Thor's story in Thor: Love and Thunder. Picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, what new challenges Thor will face have yet to be revealed. It is known that Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) will return and that Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) will transform into Mighty Thor, adding more female heroes to the fold. And now, Marvel Studios has brought a new perspective to the script.
According to Variety, Marvel has enlisted Jennifer Kaytin Robinson to work with Waititi on Thor: Love and Thunder's script. Robinson last wrote her directorial debut Someone Great for Netflix, which received positive reviews from critics. Prior to writing and directing Someone Great, Robinson was responsible for creating the MTV show Sweet/Vicious, which has a bit of a superhero element with the lead characters acting as vigilantes. Now, she'll join the largest superhero franchise of all-time and continue her rapid rise through Hollywood.
This will mean that Robinson gets to work with the unique stylings of Waititi, who is known for lots of improv on set. But, his talents as a writer are now etched in history as he just won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on Jojo Rabbit. Although he's proven he can handle just about anything, Robinson's body of work is very female-focused and Thor: Love and Thunder's prominent female characters could be a reason why she was brought aboard now.
News of Robinson working on Thor: Love and Thunder's script comes after Waititi debunked the report that he had already completed the screenplay. While it might not be done, some additional changes could be on the way with Robinson joining the project. This isn't the only MCU movie to get a new writer either, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness got a new writer to help bring Sam Raimi's vision to life. These two moves may not be connected, but it's also possible that Marvel Studios is doing some rewrites to their upcoming films to tie them together or collectively help set up new seeds for the future. Whatever the case may be, Robinson is set to help complete Thor: Love and Thunder's script before production begins later this year.
