The Winchesters and Harry Potter both deal with a whole lot of supernatural creatures - monsters, magic, general mayhem... it's the same in the Supernatural world and the wizarding one. And it seems that both the Winchesters and the Golden Trio have a never-ending advantage - they haven't come up against something that they couldn't beat!
However, we're betting that if these boys switched worlds, Sam and Dean might find themselves up against a few creatures that just can't be ganked... and a few that would be a walk in the park.
10 Could Beat: Werewolves
Werewolves actually exist in both universes, and with very similar lore - and the Winchesters have faced off against plenty of these before. That said, while Sam and Dean could (and have) bested more than their fair share of werewolves over the years, there is a solid chance that in the wizarding world, they wouldn't be hunting down Professor Lupin with a silver bullet.
In Supernatural, they have made their peace with peaceful werewolves (including ex-hunter Garth!), and would only worry about taking out wolves who were causing harm.
9 Could Not Beat: Centaur Herd
Theoretically, a centaur wouldn't be that difficult for Sam and Dean to take down - these boys have taken on Gods and monsters, why would they be stymied by a half-man, half-horse? Individually, of course, they might not be. But set them up against the entire centaur herd of the Forbidden Forest in a bad mood? That wouldn't end well for the boys, especially as there is no easy-peasy magical way out.
8 Could Beat: Sphinx
The Sphinx only shows up once in the Harry Potter series, during the Triwizard tournament. On a physical level, the Winchesters might be hard-pressed to take on this large creature, with the body of a lion and the head of a human. Sphinxes are extremely strong, and can be very violent if the item they are guarding is threatened... but Sphinxes love riddles and word games, and while Dean might be stumped, there's no doubt that Sam Winchester would love this kind of challenge.
7 Could Not Beat: Trolls & Giants
Sam and Dean may have an impressive track record with monsters and magical creatures, but they don't do that well when it comes to monsters that are truly huge - because their strength lies in lore, not necessarily in firepower. Only once have Sam and Dean come across a giant (in an alternate universe), and they beat a hasty retreat. If they were to tussle with the wizarding world Giants (or Trolls) who are not just huge but immensely strong and nearly impossible to kill, they would not be the ones ending up on top.
6 Could Beat: Dragons
Given everything that we've just said about the Winchesters dealing with creatures of a certain size, this one might come as a surprise. However, Sam and Dean have actually come up against a dragon in their own world (albeit a slightly smaller, more shape-shifty one). They also know how to kill dragons, and of the swords that are able to do this. It might not be a walk in the park, but this certainly wouldn't be a game-ender for the Supernatural boys.
5 Could Not Beat: Boggart
Surprisingly enough, a creature than any semi-capable wizard could deal with is one that the Winchesters would be utterly stymied by: the Boggart. In Harry Potter, we see a range of witches and wizards (even young students) taking on these fear-shaped creatures that love to lurk in dark spaces.
However, the issue is that while Boggarts aren't a big deal in the wizarding world, they need a wand for someone to vanquish them. Sam and Dean may be capable with potions and spellwork... but they are utterly incapable of wand magic. They'd probably manage this if they stopped by Ollivander's first, though.
4 Could Beat: Ghosts
To be fair, the ghosts in the wizarding world aren't necessarily something to beat - for the most part, they are friendly dead people who just want to continue wandering the world, flitting through walls and chatting to Hogwarts students. However, should Sam and Dean come across a ghost that actually needed vanquishing... let's be real, here, it would barely be a reason to break a sweat. Ghosts have been the Winchester's bread and butter for years, they could clear Hogwarts of its ghostly occupants in no time (if they wanted to).
3 Could Not Beat: Dementors
The boys have dealt with losing their luck, catching fear sickness, being stuck in alternate realities, and all kinds of situations that might cause them to lose their minds... and they've got out of it all ok. But dementors might just be beyond them. Like the boggart, these need wand-magic to attack (by creating a patronus). In addition, a determined dementor is unlikely to give Sam and Dean time to search through books of lore to discover what it is. Their souls would be sucked out of their bodies in a heartbeat. Sorry boys.
2 Could Beat: Basilisk
Although the basilisk is enormous, terrifying, and hard to kill, we have faith that the Winchesters could manage it. For one thing, the Basilisk leaves a trail of petrified people behind it - and that's just the kind of clue that the Winchesters love to solve. They might even figure it out before Hermione could! And at the end of the day, all it really needs to be taken down is a magic sword, and there are plenty of those in the bunker. Throw in Cas and his ability to heal any basilisk injuries (Fawkes-style), and they could cope with this giant snake.
1 Could Not Beat: Voldemort
The biggest and baddest of the Harry Potter world - and Voldemort is not someone that Sam and Dean could vanquish. Sure, the concept of a quest to find horcruxes and destroy them is actually right up Sam and Dean's alley, but when it comes down to it, they couldn't manage the final fight. The prophecy itself says that Harry has to kill Voldemort himself, for one thing. For another, Harry is a horcrux - and if we know one thing about the Winchesters, it's that they aren't about to murder a child just to get the bad guy.
