Schitt's Creek: 10 Biggest Changes Between Season 1 and Season 6

The sixth and final season of Schitt's Creek is underway, and there's a lot that hasn't changed since the Roses arrived in town. Roland is still the mayor, Twyla's still waiting on tables at the cafe, and Johnny, Moira, Alexis, and David are still living at a motel. Just because Schitt's Creek remains a town for sale with no buyer doesn't mean this hidden gem or its residents haven't undergone some transformations.

Bob and Gwen's marriage is on the rocks, the motel has plenty of towels and top-shelf bath products and there's a thriving cultural scene. Most importantly, the Roses have accepted that their temporary layover is semi-permanent. Before Schitt's Creek comes to an end, we decided to point out the 10 biggest changes on the show between season 1 and season 6.

10 The Roses Are Better Parents

Moira and Johnny Rose recognized their failings as parents during season 1 of Schitt's Creek. Moira didn't know her daughter's middle name (that may still be true), both forgot David's birthday and were ambivalent about their children's comings and goings. So when the Roses were forced into a confined space, Moira and Johnny finally stepped up.

Moira and Alexis are working together to promote Moira's movie. Family dinners happen regularly, Johnny isn't thrilled to see Alexis head to the Galapagos, Moira's offering sympathy when David has a nighttime oopsy-daisy. Even better, Alexis and David's parents have more than a passing interest in their significant others.

9 David And Stevie Are Tighter Than Ever

The David-Stevie relationship went through a lot of ups and downs during season 1. They explored a friends-with-benefits situation that didn't work out, leaving Stevie feeling rejected.

Now, David is getting ready to walk down the aisle, and he and Stevie are tighter than ever. They still engage in sarcastic banter. Stevie is as close to Patrick as she is to David, and she loves to choose sides whether the couple is genuinely at odds or just joking around. There's little doubt their friendship will be tested because David is a huge groomzilla, and Stevie is a clueless maid of honor. But the Patrick-David-Stevie throuple can overcome any obstacle.

8 Alexis Isn't Engaged And David Is Betrothed

On the season 1 finale, the only thing that stood between the Roses leaving Schitt's Creek was the signature of an interested buyer who died before sealing the deal. Alexis' change of plans resulted in her sleeping with Mutt while engaged to the cute but bland Ted. Meanwhile, David's love life consisted of a few trysts with Stevie with no other romantic prospects in sight.

Alexis is now happily ensconced in a committed relationship with Ted who, while still a bit vanilla, is the perfect fit for Alexis. David and Patrick are both business and life partners. The impossibility that David could be content much less downright happy is what drove him out of town at the end of season 1. Now home is where the heart is, and for David, that's with Patrick in Schitt's Creek.

7 Stevie Is No Longer A Disgruntled Desk Clerk

Some things about Stevie haven't changed: she's big on flannel shirts and her tongue is as sharp as ever. But she's no longer an ambivalent desk clerk and purveyor of towels, she's an entrepreneur. Thanks to her dead aunt and some pushing and prodding from Johnny, Stevie is the proud owner of a growing chain of Rosebud motels. Look out Hiltons because there's a new force emerging in the hospitality industry.

Stevie has been on a journey of self-discovery, but after hitting several dead ends, she's back in the motel business. With Johnny and Roland by her side, there's nothing ... well, almost nothing Stevie can't accomplish.

6 David Is Slightly Less Neurotic

Nobody can argue David Rose isn't high maintenance, but he has chilled out ever so slightly since season 1. He's channeled a lot of energy into his store where being persnickety pays off. There's been no more panic attacks or insomnia or chatter about insects with milky exoskeletons crawling into his mouth as he sleeps.

David continues to hold himself to impossibly high standards regarding his appearance, and when it comes to his taste, he's a snob and a half. He also will wet the bed if he's super excited. But David is learning to live and let it go and to be more inclusive, inviting patrons into the store for open mic nights and assorted events.

5 Roland And Jocelyn Aren't So Sex Crazed

Early in the series, Roland and Jocelyn weren't shy dishing about sex. Jocelyn divulged that she did naked cartwheels in front of the TV to catch Roland's attention, bragged about being objectified by her male students, discussed their erections and told David he needed to get laid. The twosome was also A-okay with PDA.

Since the arrival of their son, Jocelyn is busy teaching, dealing with a toddler, catering to Moira's ego, and growing out her disastrous haircut from season 5. Roland has gone from handyman to co-owner of the second Rosebud Motel. These two may be keeping it hot between the sheets, but they've cooled off when it comes to talking about it.

4 Schitt's Creek Has Gone Hollywood

When former soap star and multiple Daytime Emmy Award-nominee Moira first arrived in Schitt's Creek, the closest she got to showbiz was helping out with a school play. Over time, she's found ways to express her creativity, be it as a Jazzagal or directing the community theater production of Cabaret.

Most recently, Schitt's Creek was the location of the North American premiere of The Crows Have Eyes 3: The Crowening, starring one Moira Rose. The Elmdale press even attended. The event was memorable because nobody saw the film, and life imitated art when crows attacked the crowd.

3 All The Roses Are Working

When the Roses sought refuge in Schitt's Creek, their financial outlook was grim. Johnny put his time and energy into selling the town while the other members of his family focused on adjusting to their new socio-economic standing.

Since then, Johnny has gone from being an idea man to a hands-on motel manager. David opened Rose Apothecary, and even though the place is always empty, business is supposedly good. Alexis has found her calling: she's building her resume as a publicist. Moira rekindled her acting career and is enjoying her return to the spotlight as her new movie makes waves in the ornithological community.

2 The Roses And Schitts Are ... Friends?

Despite their best efforts to roll out the welcome mat for the Roses, the town's mayor and his wife found themselves rebuffed at every turn. Somewhere between the veiled insults and the outright disdain, a friendship of sorts formed. The couples confide in one another about everything from money troubles to marital discord. Roland no longer yields his minuscule amount of power over Johnny, and the two have forged a business partnership. Moira and Johnny have figured out that Jocelyn and Roland have proven to be more loyal than the inhabitants of their former social circle.

This doesn't mean Moira's grandstanding doesn't work Jocelyn's nerves, or that Roland's idiocy doesn't grate on Johnny, but friends accept each other, flaws and all.

1 The Roses Aren't As Eager To Leave

As soon as the Roses set foot in Schitt's Creek, they began to plan their escape. but over time they've made themselves indispensable members of the community. They are always searching for ways to make the town a better place, even if it is for personal gain. With Moira sitting pretty on the town council, David and Johnny tied to local businesses, and Alexis seriously involved with the town's vet, the Roses appear to have lost interest in not only selling the town but leaving it.
