Harry Potter: 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About The Order Of The Phoenix

The Harry Potter franchise has introduced us to a lot of memorable characters, iconic settings and organizations. The Order of the Phoenix combines all three of these elements to produce a group so famous that one of the 7 books was named after it.

Created by Albus Dumbledore during the height of Voldemort's power and revived when he had returned in a more modern era, the Order of the Phoenix is a group dedicated to protecting the wizarding world. Here's 10 unanswered questions we still have about them.

10 DOES IT STILL EXIST?

The Order of the Phoenix was seemingly disbanded after the battle of Hogwarts but that doesn't mean it's gone for good. We're not sure if it actually survived this and has been brought into the future. There's every possibility it still exists.

Of course there are always dark threats on the horizon that must be prepared for, but many of the original members are now dead, so it seems unlikely that it would continue. We'd love to get a definitive answer on this though.

9 WHAT OTHER SAFE HOUSES DO THEY HAVE?

We know that Grimmauld Place has served as a HQ and the Burrow has also been used a safe house in the past. Lily and James' house must have also been a location that they felt comfortable. However, what other safe houses did they have?

We can only assume that Aberforth's pub also served as a safe route from time to time, especially into the school. However, we don't know how far across the country their various safe locations actually managed to reach.

8 DO THEY HAVE A NEW HQ?

With Grimmauld place likely compromised, if the Order was to ever reform they would surely need a new location for their headquarters. The organization always needs a HQ for all its members to meet and go when they need to discuss business.

If they have not changed the location of their HQ why on Earth not? After the death of Sirius Black the house was a lot less safe. Mundungus probably gave the location away to many other people and no one really trusts Kreature enough either.

7 WHO CHOOSES THE MEMBERS?

The Order of the Phoenix got a little controversial when they refused to let Harry in as a member. The question is therefore, how do they actually select who's a part of the team and who isn't? There's a number of ways it could be decided.

It could be simply a conversation between members, but we don't know if there are any more formal rules. It might be up to the discretion of the leader or maybe there's even a voting system that determines who's in and who's out.

6 WHO SHOULD LEAD NOW?

With Dumbledore, Mad Eye Moody, Sirius, Tonks and even Lupin all dead due to the fight against Voldemort and his dark disciples, there aren't many contenders left to lead the group. Molly or Arthur Weasley seem like good matches.

As does McGonagall, although she has her duties elsewhere as the new headmistress at Hogwarts. Perhaps Harry, Ron or Hermione could lead the group in the future but this seems like they are lacking in experience in the group. Perhaps Kingsley is the key.

5 HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD TO LEAVE?

There's been a few different people who have had to leave the Order for various reasons. For instance, the Longbottoms had to leave due to their insanity after Bellatrix tortured them with a deadly curse.

Others have died rather than leaving, but how many others have chosen to step away. It seems that Aberforth is one that gave up, but there must be a few others who did as well, especially as the pressures of the dark lord continued to mount.

4 IS IT NEEDED NOW?

Now that Voldemort is gone, is an Order of the Phoenix actually still needed? The fact is, we've previously noted that dark wizards are always rising, but that's what the ministry of magic is there for.

Perhaps a sort of civilian army just wouldn't be of any use and could even get in the way. It was frowned upon in the past and with Harry and Hermione reforming the ministry perhaps it is just no longer required.

3 WHO WOULD BE THE MODERN MEMBERS?

If the Order did keep going then we have to know what members would now fill its ranks. The assumption would be that many of Dumbledore's army would be promoted to the Order.

People like Neville, Luna and Ginny could all take seats at this table. However, there's plenty of other talented wizards and witches that should join up. There's also the question of whether Draco should be allowed to join.

2 WILL IT GO DOWN IN HISTORY?

The Order certainly had an important part to play in saving the wizarding world. While it may not have been as effective as it would have liked to have been, it's still a vital part of the story that should be told.

However, when the history books of this world are written, will any of them make mention of the Order of the Phoenix? Not only is it a very secretive group, but it also might not have made the change it thinks it could have done.

1 DOES THE PHOENIX HAVE A DEEPER MEANING?

The Order of the Phoenix was named that likely due to the connections with Dumbledore, who has a phoenix and the fact that the Order were rising from the ashes to face a brand new world.

There's a number of other meanings for a phoenix in the wizarding world though. Maybe it's due to their tears that can actually heal people, as the Order is trying to do. Maybe it's to do with the great loads the group can carry together. We'd love to know more about the name!
