Harry Potter: 10 People Ron Could Have Been With (Other Than Hermione)

Ron Weasley ended up with Hermione Granger at the end of the Harry Potter series. This didn’t seem like it was going to be the case for a while, because Ron spent the early days of the series relentlessly mocking his good-natured friend. However, by the end of the franchise, he had very clearly fallen in love with her, and it all worked out in the end.

However, Ron met a fair few potential love interests along the way. We’ve collected ten of the best. Some are more serious than others...

10 Luna Lovegood

There is a fine line between could and should. Luna Lovegood is certainly an example of someone Ron should have been with. A lovely, interesting, funny, warm and kind-hearted person who would provide Ron with basically no stress.

Sure, she may have some more leftfield interests, but they’re certainly something he could learn to love or even learn a little more about. Despite her strange habits and collections, she never judges anyone else for their weirdness or particularly tries to convert anyone to her own mindset. This would have been perfect.

9 Lavender Brown

Lavender Brown takes on a much more literal use of the word ‘could’. She became obsessed with her “little Won Won” quite early on in The Half-Blood Prince. We could never quite tell his position on it, but if he had wanted to stay with her, he certainly could have.

It seemed like he was using Lavender to get back at Hermione, but at the same time, they did kiss a lot, and for a while, it looked like he enjoyed her company, so maybe he liked her for a while, at least? Either way, her heartbreak and obsession with him post-breakup meant he could have probably gone back to her at any time.

8 Romilda Vane

Approaching this list entry through rhyme for one final time, Romilda Vane is an example of someone Ron would have been with if his love potion hadn’t been cured. She attempted to slip Harry a love potion in a box of chocolates, but Ron couldn’t help himself and dug in straight away.

He fell in love with her, obviously, but ended up being quite severely poisoned and, finally, cured. If he hadn’t cured this, the potion would have propelled him to pursue Romilda, probably slipping her love potion and making her fall right back in love with him.

7 Harry Potter

Ron’s best friend is a strange character. He spends most of his time seeming quite stern and sullen, and the rest of it with a massive hero complex. He is also pretty argumentative, leading to at least two huge fallings out with Ron over their time at Hogwarts.

Despite this, the two obviously care incredibly deeply for each other, both risking their own lives time and time again to save the other. Obviously, the major flaw in this love story is that both characters appear to be straight (you can’t retcon that one, Rowling).

6 Padma Patil

In one of the many alternate universes created by the incomprehensible story of The Cursed Child, Ron actually did end up with Padma Patil. Imagine that. An almost completely irrelevant character and Ron could have easily taken a slightly different turn and ended up married to her.

Anyway, if Ron hadn’t been so stony-faced throughout the entire Yule Ball (because Hermione looked beautiful and was dancing the night away with Ron’s hero, Viktor Krum), then maybe he and Padma would have worked out. In the end, she pretty much ended up hating him.

5 Pansy Parkinson

Now, this would have been a twist, but it requires quite a lot of creative thought. Ron was probably one of the most loyal and purest of heart in the entirety of Hogwarts castle, while Pansy Parkinson may have been one of the most truly, deep-down evil of the lot.

However, all Ron really needed to do was embrace the dark side of his pure-blood roots. If he had avoided the muggle-loving view of his family, he may have been sorted into Slytherin, spent all of his time with Parkinson, and rode into the sunset talking about Mudbloods.

4 Fleur Delacour

Things get a little weird when you remember that Fleur Delacour ended up with Ron’s eldest brother, but back in their fourth year, Ron was obsessed with the French Triwizard Tournament competitor.

He spooked them a little at first with his gaunt staring, but by the end of the book, he had turned Fleur and her sister into his friends. He even got a kiss on the cheek. Perhaps if he had found a way to send Fleur a letter, it might have been him living in a quaint cottage and getting married to her.

3 Madam Rosmerta

“Madam Rosmerta, Ron fancies her,” Hermione says the first time the barmaid appears on screen. He might find her attractive, but she is way older than Ron, and would never give him the time of day.

It’s pretty hard to figure out a way for them ever being together. In a way, that wouldn’t be illogical, weird, or downright illegal, but it is still a pretty funny thought.

2 Seamus Finnigan

This could be quite an interesting pairing for Ron, just because they’re quite similar.

As far as we know, they aren’t attracted to each other, but the fact that both make a lot of magical errors and have particularly heated tempers make them potentially rather well-matched. And again, with the retcons J.K. Rowling seems to be comfortable with making, who knows? Maybe they could end up together in an alternate universe.

1 Minerva McGonagall

The final entry on the list is yet another unlikely one, given quite a drastic age difference. However, Minerva always seemed to have a bit of a soft spot for Ron, delivering subtle flirty lines towards him in the latter films.

Beyond that, she danced with him before the Yule Ball: “Take my waist”. Everyone saw it happen, so he has nowhere to hide from this alternative universe love affair.
