When Disney+ launched, so did The Mandalorian. This is a live-action Star Wars show, and it features Gina Carano. This star actually got her start as a mixed martial artist, but for the past few years, she has been focusing on acting.
That being said, we have rounded up some interesting tidbits about her (such as other works she has appeared in and awards she has won), and we have thought about some other roles we would like to see her in, as well. After the success of The Mandalorian, she is surely going to be in so many more series and films, and we can't wait!
10 To Know: She Plays Cara In This Disney+ Series
As the name suggests, The Mandalorian is about a Mandalorian bounty hunter. It features a thrilling story, The Child (a fan favorite that is also known as Baby Yoda), and appearances by stars such as Giancarlo Esposito, Amy Sedaris, and Bill Burr.
Within this show, Gina Carano portrays Carasynthia "Cara" Dune, who used to be a rebel shock trooper and who joins the title character for some real adventure. From the tattoos and the outfit to the strong personality, there is a lot to love about this chick!
9 Other Role: Wonder Woman
Linda Carter was an amazing Wonder Woman, and Gal Gadot is doing an amazing job with this legendary role, as well. However, look at how many people have played Spider-Man and Batman already. It only makes sense that someone else may get the chance to play this leading lady at some point.
And it should be Gina Carano! Wonder Woman is strong yet sweet. She is gorgeous yet not afraid to get down and dirty. She makes the right choice, even when it is hard, and she looks good while fighting off bad guys. That is so this actress.
8 To Know: She Is A Fighter
Before this leading lady was seen in popular shows and movies, she was seen in fights. Gina Carano started out doing Muay Thai before moving to the competitive MMA world. There, she competed in Strikeforce and EliteXC, and in 2009, Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg happened, which was the first time that two females had been the feature of a big MMA event. Even though Cris Cyborg won, Carano ended up with a competitive record of 12–1–1 in Muay Thai and of 7–1 in MMA.
7 Other Role: Westworld Host
Westworld is a TV show that is based on a film by Michael Crichton from 1973, and it is about a futuristic and Western-themed amusement park full of androids. Strong female leads such as Evan Rachel Wood, Tessa Thompson, Shannon Woodward, and Thandie Newton can be seen within the story…
...and Gina Carano could and should be added to that roster. She has already played some tough characters who end up in action-filled adventures, and it is easy to imagine her as part of this world.
6 To Know: She Was In Deadpool
While Star Wars shows and flicks are often highly praised, superhero movies are, as well. In 2016, a fan favorite was released: Deadpool. This film stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, and a sequel came out in 2018.
Some may not remember, but Gina Carano was part of this story; she played a character named Angel Dust, who was an artificially-mutated member from the program that had made Deadpool. She was super fast, she was super strong, and she had this super cool look (that actually has some similarities to her ensemble in The Mandalorian).
5 Other Role: A Grown-Up Becky "Icebox" O'Shea
In 1994, one of the most classic sports films ever was released: Little Giants. This family-friendly flick starred Rick Moranis and Ed O'Neill as brothers who coached competing pee-wee football teams. Shawna Waldron portrayed the only girl who played the sport, Becky "Icebox" O'Shea.
And, in March of 2019, Gina Carano shared a photo of this fierce character on her Instagram account. She already seems to have an interest in her, and it is easy to picture her as the grown-up version of Becky, with their similar looks and personalities.
4 To Know: She Was In Fast & Furious 6
The Fast & Furious franchise started in 2001, the latest installment came out in 2017, and two more movies are set to come out this year and next year. The sixth film in this franchise was released in 2013, starring the usual group, which includes Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Ludacris, and Paul Walker.
Gina Carano was part of this group, as well, and her character’s name was Riley Hicks. She was a DSS agent, and *SPOILER ALERT*, she was also Shaw's double agent.
3 Other Role: Dottie Hinson
Another epic sports-themed movie out there is A League of Their Own from 1992. It told the true story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, and it featured an all-star cast made up of people like Tom Hanks, Madonna, and Rosie O'Donnell.
Geena Davis played Dorothy "Dottie" Hinson in this story, and Gina Carano uploaded a photo of this character to social media in February of last year. It is honestly surprising that a remake or spin-off film hasn’t happened yet, but, when it does… Carano can be Dottie!
2 To Know: She Has Won Awards
Over the years, Gina Carano has received some notable attention and awards. For instance, Big Biz Magazine called her the Hottest Woman In America in 2008. Yahoo put her at number five on their list of the Top Ten Influential Women of 2008. Maxim had her in the sixteenth spot on their Hot 100 list in 2009. She was one of the most-searched athletes on Yahoo in 2013, and she was the first person to win the Chick Norris Award, which was given to the Best Female Action Star by the ActionFest Film Festival in 2012.
1 Other Role: A Mobster
There is one more image that Gina Carano put online, and that inspired another idea. Mobster movies and TV shows are common and well-received, so, if anyone out there is working on one and needs help with casting, here is a solution. This fan art shows Carano in the right clothes and with the right attitude for this genre. And, with her beauty and her strength (physically and beyond), she could honestly shine in any role!
