We’re in the midst of having God be the main antagonist on Supernatural, but the tag of being the overall villains of the series has to go to the demons. These corrupted souls have been featured in singular episodes and overarching arcs on the show and have been responsible for a number of tragedies.
Even demons who turned into allies like Crowley still retained their antagonism, so it’s a no-brainer that they’ve done their fair share of awful acts. In this list, we’ve considered demons as a whole and individual demons in these 10 worst things they’ve done on Supernatural.
10 Every Deal Made By A Crossroads Demon
It was confirmed that Crowley would outright seek potential “clients” rather than have them summon him. Although it may sound like a sweet deal to have any wish come true - that too for a grand total of ten years - it’s all just a manipulation on the part of the demons.
Mostly, it’s because the wish that ended up coming true wasn’t even exactly what the deal would require. For instance, one client who’d requested to be a famous artist ended up being a man with talent but zero fame, meaning he went to Hell for nothing. In Season 7, Crowley’s subordinate began killing clients right after the deal had been placed, making everything about Crossroads demons a scam.
9 Belphegor's Possession Of Jack's Body To Fool The Heroes
In the final season premiere, the demon Belphegor initially arrived under the guise of being an ally for the Winchesters. Although he claimed he didn’t know who Jack was when he took control of his dead body, it became clear Belphegor had purposefully done that to fool them into trusting him.
Making this such a bad thing is the fact that Jack had only just died, and Belphegor was using the body of kid (Jack was 2-years-old) with the intention of ruling Hell. He knew it was paining Castiel greatly to see Jack’s body being violated in such a way, and yet Belphegor had the gall to pretend to be Jack to sway Castiel’s intentions.
8 The Massacre In The Convent
In his search to locate the door to Lucifer’s cage, the Prince of Hell Azazel found it to be a convent that was built right above the cage. Here, rather than get straight to business to speak to Lucifer, Azazel took his sweet time...slaughtering nuns!
He only needed one at the very least to use as a conduit for Lucifer, but Azazel made a show out of the whole thing by eliminating as many as eight nuns just for the heck of it, even giving a long and giddy speech over his twisted pleasure beforehand.
7 Manipulation Of Sam's Life To Start The Apocalypse
Beginning the apocalypse was a collective effort, one where the angels were also to blame. But the demons are the ones guilty for ruining Sam’s life by interfering at every turn. As it turned out, every significant figure in his life had been possessed by a demon, including his former best friend Brady who was the one that killed Jessica.
It got worse as Sam got older, as Lilith sent Ruby in to steer him toward evil. Sam’s demon blood-drinking habits, his opening of the cage, and him ending up in Hell all had to do with the demons working behind the scenes.
6 Lilith Taking Over A Little Girl For Fun
While waiting for Dean and Sam to come for her in order to let Dean out of his deal to go to Hell, Lilith went on “shore leave” to have some fun. For her, fun entailed possessing a little girl and tormenting her family.
She went on to horrify the family by taking them hostage, making them cater to her twisted demands, watch her kill and maim, before killing off the grandfather and forcing others to play along. All this had no purpose other than to entertain Lilith.
5 Torture Of Dean And John
The demons’ plans hadn’t solely been for Sam, as their intentions had also been with sending John Winchester to Hell and have him break the first seal. When John turned out to be incredibly resilient and withstood a century of torture, the demons then turned toward Dean.
He was also placed under the Grand Torturer of Hell Alastair so that Dean would give in and become a torturer himself. By Dean’s account, Alastair and the other demons would put him on the rack, skin, carve, and tear him apart every day before repeating the process - a torture that lasted for 40 years.
4 Every Possession Of A Human
Even though this is the most basic trait of a demon it’s not by any means an acceptable thing to do. Taking over a human as a meat suit always ends in tragedy, with even hunters turning a blind eye to this and happily killing the host to end the demon.
If a person does end up going free, they are left with dreadful memories of the acts of barbarism the demons committed through them. Many a time, demons have let their meat suits intentionally be lucid just to antagonize them or cause their loved ones pain by witnessing their possession.
3 Killing Of Mary Winchester
Mary Winchester’s demise gets a special mention out of every other kill because this was the one that kickstarted the plans for the apocalypse. Thereafter, any atrocity committed by the demons was in the name of what was to come.
The kill itself was horrible due to it being the product of a deal that was made when Azazel possessed Mary’s father, even making her kiss him to seal it. Before her death, Azazel bled into the mouth of her infant son and set the room ablaze with baby Sam still in his cot and his mother on the ceiling.
2 Making Isaac Consume Drain Cleaner And Then Possess His Body
The Seven Deadly Sins were a group of demons who embodied each vice they are famous for, with these antagonists appearing in the Season 3 premiere. Here, they were able to lure in a hunter couple, where the husband Isaac was made a pawn in their sick games.
In order to let his wife off the hook, Isaac complied with Gluttony to drink drain cleaner, which had the effect of dissolving his insides as Isaac died a violent and bloody death. It didn’t stop there, as a demon then possessed Isaac to trick his wife into believing he was still alive and mocked her for causing their daughter’s death after accessing Isaac’s memories.
1 Conceiving Jesse Turner
Long before Lucifer was released, the demons set out to conceive a Cambion, a being that was the product of relations between a human and a demon. The child, Jesse Turner, was created in order to groom him in becoming a weapon for the devil.
To achieve the conception, a woman named Julia Wright was possessed and forced into being impregnated. She was then also a witness to all the brutal killings the demon possessing her made her commit. This was a special kind of evil that is low even for normal demon standards as Julia was violated more than just on a physical level.
