A photographer has sued, star of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kim Kardashian West for stealing his photo that she posted to her Instagram. This is not the first time a freelancer has decided to sue a Hollywood A-lister as it is becoming more and more normal to do so.
Since aired in 2007, Kim was shot into stardom and has been entertaining reality TV audiences ever since. The beauty mogul married rapper Kanye West in 2014 in a ceremony abroad, the two currently have four children together, and she recently launched her shapewear collection, Skims. Part of Kim's appeal is that she's always been very open and honest with her following about her products and which products she chooses to endorse. She has also been in the news for suing a doctor who used her picture to endorse his practice.
While many may not think that the paparazzi have a soul, they do still have to make a living as freelancers. TMZ reported that Kardashian had posted a cute photo of her and her husband back in October of 2018, showing the two looking lovingly into one another’s eyes. More than 2.2 million people liked the photo and commented on it, but the photographer, who actually took the picture, is suing Kardashian for stealing his work as he owned the copyright. The papers were filed on January 22 in a New York federal court. The Instagram photo that the photographer is suing Kim Kardashian over is pictured below:
Said photographer, Saeed Bolden has claimed that he was the one to take the perfect picture and actually owns it. According to the lawsuit, Bolden alleged that he never gave Kardashian the right to use the picture nor did she pay him to use it. The freelancer snapped the picture almost two years ago at Nas’s album release party which West produced. According to the lawsuit, Bolden had not named a price but is suing for any profits that Kardashian may have made off of the post and punitive damages. The suit had also named Kardashians shapewear line, Skims Body as the photographer alleged that it was shared with the reality star Instagram account, but the Skims account has never posted the picture.
The sex tape star turned lawyer has made a career by manipulating social media but it would seem that her savviness has caught up with her. If it turned out to be the photographer’s photo Kardashian will lose the lawsuit as she had no right to use it. The U.S. Copyright Office does show that last year, Bolden registered a copyright for the image that he took of the couple back in 2018. While it is not surprising that a photographer would want credit for his work, it is surprising that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star would not understand that she would need permission since she has been studying to become a lawyer.
