Disney+'s Hawkeye Rumored To Be Indefinitely Delayed

Marvel Studios' Hawkeye mini-series for Disney+ may have been delayed indefinitely. Disney officially launched its streaming service late last year, but it was just a few months earlier that Marvel officially confirmed what content they would produce for it. Through San Diego Comic-Con and D23, they announced eight new shows made exclusively for Disney+. A Hawkeye series starring Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton was among the initial wave, along with shows like WandaVision and Loki.

News of Hawkeye getting a solo project is something fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been waiting to hear for years. However, Clint will not be the only Hawkeye in the series, as Kate Bishop will co-star and is set to become the Hawkeye of the future. In the months since the announcement, Hawkeye has found a showrunner in Mad Men's Jonathan Igla and began searching for an actress to play Bishop. With a Fall 2021 release original announced, it had been expected for Hawkeye to begin production in the middle of this summer - but that may no longer be the case.

According to a new rumor, Hawkeye has been delayed indefinitely by Marvel Studios. The report comes from Charles Murphy and his new website Murphy's Multiverse, where he says that the show has been removed from Marvel's 2020 production schedule. The rumor cites larger changes to the MCU's future as the reason for this delay, and not because of recent allegations against Renner. At this point, though, Hawkeye being delayed needs to be taken with a grain of salt until a more reliable source backs up this claim.

If this report is accurate, then it will be a longer wait than expected to see Hawkeye. Instead of being released in 2021 with Loki and What If...?, fans could have to wait until 2022 or later to watch the series. There is one potential piece of good news that could come with Hawkeye being delayed, though. It was previously reported Hailee Steinfeld was offered to play Kate Bishop. She has since downplayed the likelihood of this deal happening, and it was thought that her work on Apple's Dickinson could get in the way. If Hawkeye doesn't begin filming until next year, though, then there is a chance Steinfeld could be free.

The possibility of Hawkeye being delayed is the latest shakeup that has hit Phase 4 recently. Marvel confirmed at the beginning of the year WandaVision had been moved up to a release in 2020, instead of early 2021. This change, and Hawkeye's possible delay, leaves Disney+ with only two confirmed MCU shows, although Ms. Marvel's fast-moving development could see it added to 2021. Of course, it was also announced Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness lost its director too. All of this may be tied to Marvel Studios adjusting Phase 4 and beyond, and Hawkeye could be the latest project to change.
