The first Wonder Woman 1984 trailer revealed a glimpse into Diana Prince's next adventure and it may have featured her iconic Invisible Jet. Gal Gadot is back as the Amazonian superhero but she's leaving behind WWI to take on conflict during the Cold War in the 1980s. The sequel to 2017's Wonder Woman was announced a month after its theatrical debut. Patty Jenkins will look to strike gold a second time by returning to direct Wonder Woman 1984.
Besides a few images and vibrant posters, the details for Wonder Woman 1984 have been few and far between. By piecing together the information, Diana will face not one but two villains. Kristen Wiig portrays Barbara Ann Minerva, better known to DC Comics fans as Cheetah. The main antagonist, however, will be Maxwell Lord, a rich businessman played by Pedro Pascal. One of the other main storylines features the return of Chris Pine in the role of Steve Trevor. Diana's love interest seemingly died at the end of the first film and the story about his return remains a mystery.
The initial footage released by Warner Bros. doesn't give away too many plot details, and for good reason. That said, fans are finally given a look into Diana facing off against a new threat plaguing the world. Near the end of the new footage, Diana can be seen donning the new Golden Eagle Armor. That's not the only element of the Wonder Woman comics that comes into play in the trailer. It looks as though Diana and Steve are flying in the Invisible Jet midway through the footage - at about the 1:31 mark.
The Invisible Jet was known as Wonder Woman's primary mode of transportation in the early days of DC Comics. The jet made its debut in a 1942 issue when Diana built the transparent plane while living on Paradise Island, later known as Themyscira. At this point, Wonder Woman still couldn't fly so she relied on the Invisible Jet since it could move at great speeds and travel undetected. Up to this point, the Invisible Jet hasn't been incorporated in the DCEU but the footage suggests that Diana and Steve are flying in the plane during the fireworks scene in the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer.
The camera shows the point-of-view from the cockpit as the plane flies right through the fireworks lighting up the sky. Steve looks up in amazement before he punches the throttle to fly faster. Onlookers below might question the fact that a plane was flying directly through fireworks unless it couldn't be seen by the naked eye. The Invisible Jet could be the latest addition to Wonder Woman's comic book history to make its big introduction into the sequel.
There might be a second hint to the Invisible Jet about ten seconds later in the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer. While Diana is running at full speed through the streets, a flashback of her younger self is shown. The footage then switches back to the movie's timeline as Diana uses her Lasso of Truth to propel her into the sky. Could she be slingshotting herself to her Invisible Jet? The camera pans out as she flies through the air but her target isn't shown. The trailer features a number of different terrains which means Diana finds herself in multiple locations during the sequel. The Invisible Jet could be the easiest option to reach far distances in the quickest amount of time. More details about what's to come in Wonder Woman 1984 will undoubtedly be unveiled before the film hits theaters next summer.
