The Mandalorian: Every Character Who Died In The Season 1 Finale

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian season 1 finale, "Redemption," may have allowed Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Baby Yoda to escape and set off on their next adventure, but it also featured a couple of casualties as the Mandalorian faced off against Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).

The penultimate episode of The Mandalorian season 1, "The Reckoning," ended on a cliffhanger. After Din recruited the help of Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Kuiil (Nick Nolte) to defeat the Imperial remnants in Nevarro, things took a turn for the worse with the arrival of Moff Gideon. The former Imperial governor was revealed to be the person who is after Baby Yoda, making him the true primary antagonist of the show. While Din, Cara and Greef were surrounded by Gideon's troops, a pair of scout troopers chased Kuiil, who was hustling to get on Razer Crest with Baby Yoda. The episode ended with the infant in the hands of Gideon's people while Din remained cornered in The Client's (Werner Herzog) safe house.

The events of "The Reckoning" directly led into the season finale, with IG-11 (voiced by Taika Waititi) retrieving Baby Yoda from the scout troopers who fired at Kuiil. After taking care of the troopers, the IG-11 rushed to help Din aboard a speeder, carrying with the infant with him. At this point, there was still no confirmation that Kuiil is dead. While last week's episode showed his unconscious body on the ground, fans were holding out hope that IG-11 would be able to resurrect him - after all, he is a nursing droid. But as Din asked about the Ugnaught, IG-11 confirmed that Kuiil is indeed dead. Just before the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda boarded the Razer Crest for their new mission after defeating Moff Gideon, Din created a make-shift tombstone for Kuiil, with the Ugnaught's helmet lying on top of the bed of rocks where his body was laid to rest.

Sadly, Kuiil was not the only who died in the episode. IG-11 also bit the bullet towards the end of The Mandalorian's finale. After safely reuniting Baby Yoda with Din, IG-11 joined the gang in escaping Moff Gideon's troops. At one point, Din was so badly injured that he asked Cara and Greef to leave him to die; however, the droid insisted on staying with him. Despite the Mandalorian's skepticism, IG-11 successfully healed him with the use of some batch tank fluid.

This resulted in Din changing his perception of IG-11, despite his ingrained hatred of droids. So, when IG-11 offered to sacrifice himself in order to save all of them from the Stormtroopers waiting for them at the end of the lava river tunnel, Din repeatedly stopped him. But with no other way out of the predicament, IG-11 asked Din to ensure Baby Yoda's safety, walked towards the platoon of Stormtroopers and willingly detonated itself - clearing the path for the team but sacrificing his life in the process.

Kuiil and IG-11 may already be dead, but their respective demises were handled well, as they were pivotal for the survival of Din Djarin and Baby Yoda's in The Mandalorian season 1. Fans didn't get to spend as much time as they wanted with the characters, but they definitely left their mark on the Star Wars franchise.
