Around the holidays, everyone begins to get in the holiday spirit and they want to stay in that spirit by watching the best of the best of holiday movies. 10 Best: The Nutcracker And The Four Realms
Disney's take on this classic tale is the perfect holiday movie to watch and luckily, it's on Netflix for our viewing pleasure. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms follows a young girl named Clara who is in search of a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that has a priceless gift from her late mother that she has been eager to get her hands on.
Once she is led to the key, she ends up in a parallel world filled with gingerbread men, a gang of mice, and a soldier named Phillip, who helps her along her journey. It is a great family film that will surely get you ready for Christmas.
9 Worst: A Christmas Prince
If cheesy, romantic, Hallmark-esque holiday movies are your thing, then this movie is for you. But honestly, the sheer amount of cheesiness in this movie makes it too much to bear.
A Christmas Prince tells the unlikely love story between an undercover reporter and a "playboy prince" who falls for her while she's pretending to be a tutor for his younger sister. The whole storyline is completely bonkers and unrealistic to levels that may even surpass the typical Hallmark type of Christmas movie.
This Netflix original was a lot to take in, and not necessarily in a good way, unless you enjoy "hate-watching" cheesy movies such as this. And if you do, you're in luck, because there were two follow-up films: A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby.
8 Best: Just Friends
Just Friends is one of the most underrated Christmas movies of all-time, so of course, this is not one you should sleep on while it's still streaming on Netflix. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds as the formerly awkward, geeky, and overweight best friend, Chris Brander, to Amy Smart's popular and beautiful, Jamie Palamino.
But when Chris loses the weight and gains all of the confidence and swagger, he ends up back in his hometown -- by accident -- and decides to try to woo Jamie, who he's always been in love with. This leads to wild antics and comedic moments, but ultimately tells the tale of two people who are perfect each other, falling in love, with Christmas being the backdrop of it all.
7 Worst: The Spirit Of Christmas
Cursed ghosts, a haunted inn, a "workaholic lawyer" who must sell said inn, and Christmas steadily approaching makes for an interesting storyline for a holiday movie.
When we say interesting, though, we mean it's very...odd. Between the absurd storyline, the bizarre love story blossoming between the lawyer and the ghost, and the fact the acting is just as bad as the writing easily makes this one of the worst streaming Christmas movies on Netflix right now. If you want to laugh your way through a Christmas film for all the wrong reasons, then sure, give this one a go. But if you want a quality Christmas movie, definitely don't waste your time.
6 Best: White Christmas
This classic Christmas musical film is one everybody should watch each year. Telling the story of a song-and-dance team who pair up with a sister act to save a failing Vermont inn that is their former commanding general's, it's a wonderful tale full of romance, hope, and the holidays.
The incomparable Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye star in this Christmas classic and their performances alone will keep a smile on your face all throughout the film. Add in a little romance and holiday spirit, and this movie has the mark of one of the greatest Christmas films of all-time. If you haven't seen it yet for some reason, what are you waiting for?
5 Worst: Christmas Crush
Christmas Crush is a cringe-worthy movie that has so many awkward scenes that you get second-hand embarrassment for the characters, as well as the actors portraying them.
In the movie, Georgia returns to her hometown and learns her high school reunion is only a week before Christmas. She decides to go in hopes of winning back "the one who got away" and attends the gathering with her best friend from high school, Ben -- who is played by Jonathan Bennett a.k.a. Aaron Samuels from Mean Girls. This definitely wasn't his best work...but aside from that, the entire film is sloppily made, incredibly awkward, and will honestly have you wishing you watched any other Christmas movie than this.
4 Best: The Christmas Chronicles
Looking for a modern Christmas tale that is family-friendly, funny as can be, and an adventure to watch? Then look no further and start streaming The Christmas Chronicles. It just came out in 2018 and is an incredibly fun Christmas film to watch with the whole family.
Starring Kurt Russell as Santa Clause, The Christmas Chronicles tells the story of a brother and sister who plan to try to catch a glimpse of Santa Clause on film on Christmas Eve. This leads them on an unexpected journey that most kids would give anything to go on themselves. There will be a sequel coming out next year, so prepare yourselves by watching this original film first this holiday season.
3 Worst: The Princess Switch
Two women who are opposites in every way, except they look identical to one another, decide to switch lives for two days. It gets better, though! One is a Chicagoan baker who is in the country of Belgravia and she bumps into the prince's fiancée and yes, these are the two women who evidently look like twins.
Of course, this film is predictable in nearly every way and has all the makings of being very close to a cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie. So again, if that is your type of holiday film, then, by all means, check this one out. If it's not, though, you would be better off finding a different movie.
2 Best: How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
While the original animated version of the Dr. Seuss tale, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, is one of our absolute favorites, we can't help but love the live-action version just as much...if not a little more.
As we all know, this centers around the jaded and cynical green, vengeful Grinch who lives on the outskirts of Whoville and wants to make all of the citizens of Whoville just as miserable as he is on Christmas.
Jim Carrey's version of the Grinch is incredible and the added backstory that we didn't previously have for the Grinch made it even better. It's yet another great movie for families to watch together to learn the true meaning of Christmas.
1 Worst: Holiday In The Wild
One of the newest Christmas originals Netflix has created is Holiday In The Wild. It seems like it should be an instant hit, especially with stars Rob Lowe and Kristin Davis at the helm of the project.
But unless you're into the ridiculous, dramatic, rom-com type of Christmas movies, this film just doesn't hit the mark for being a great Christmas movie that will stand the test of time.
This movie follows a woman who was left by her husband on the eve of an African safari trip, so she decides to go on her own, meeting an elephant conservationist along the way. Needless to say, sparks fly, and you likely know how the rest plays out...
