Supernatural: 10 Things Even Diehard Fans Don't Know About Lucifer

Supernatural fans can all agree that Lucifer is one evil devil and no one's favorite. He has proven time after time that he is only out for himself by killing and manipulating everyone who stands in his way. He's not even charming like the fan favorite, Crowley. Many fans have watched Lucifer destroy everything in his path for the last ten years, as he was first introduced to the show in season 4.

After watching Lucifer for the past ten plus seasons, fans might think they know all there is to know about God's fallen son, but Lucifer is called the Ruler of Hell for reason. Every demon and evil spirit in Hell is a master at secret-keeping and Lucifer is no exception. Here are the 10 things even diehard fans don't know about Lucifer:

10 He has had 11 Total Vessels

Many fans of Supernatural associate Lucifer with Nick, the man who Lucifer uses as his vessel, but there have been ten other unfortunate souls who had the pleasure of Lucifer taking up space inside their heads. Throughout his ten years on Supernatural, Lucifer has taken the vessel of a rock star, a president, Sam Winchester, an archbishop, a CEO, Castiel, a random man after Amara ripped him out of Castiel, and a several unnamed members of a family including both parents and two children.

Lucifer's immense powers cause him to burn through vessels faster than any other angel, but he seems to have found a solid home in Nick.

9 His Appearances Differ From the Other Angels

Every fan of Supernatural knows that Lucifer is a bit of an outsider when it comes to angels as he often does not see eye to eye with his brothers and sisters. But his differences from his fellow angels goes beyond his attitude. Not only is his personality different, so are his wings. It's no surprise that his wings are larger and grander than the other angels since he is an archangel but his feathers also have a different shape.

Typically angel wings arc upwards, but in Lucifer's case his wings arc more out and down. Not only are his wings unique compared to his siblings, so are his eyes. While the rest of the angels' eyes glow blue, Lucifer's glow an orange-red. This is probably just another attempt at making himself feel special so he can get attention.

8 He was the First Angel to Possess Another Angel

Lucifer is a bit of a bully and he often crosses the line, daring to do what no other angel has done before. He paves the way to new darker horizons. Not only was he the first angel to fall from Heaven, he was also the first angel to ever possess another angel.

In season 11, Lucifer took over Jimmy Novak, Castiel's  vessel, and Castiel himself to attempt taking down Amara. Amara eventually pulls Lucifer from Castiel's vessel in her rage. But nonetheless Lucifer still gets the title of being the first angel to possess another angel, just another way for him to show off and gloat.

7 He has been Overpowered Twice by His Vessels

After watching Lucifer for the past ten years on Supernatural, many fans probably believe he is the one of the most powerful celestial beings. And he is, but his powers only go so far. Lucifer would never want to admit this for fear it would hurt his reputation, but he has in fact been overpowered twice by his vessels.

Sam, who is Lucifer's perfect vessel, was able to overpower him in season 5, episode 22 "The Swan Song" when Lucifer was trying to kill Dean. Sam's love for his brother is stronger than any archangel. Castiel was also able to overpower Lucifer to stop him from killing Dean even though it took all of his strength. What those two wouldn't do for Dean.

6 He is a Middle Child

Psychology studies suggest that middle children tend to have a need to be dramatic so they can still get the attention they desire. This isn't true for many middle children, but it definitely makes sense in Lucifer's case. Lucifer and Raphael share the middle child slot in this family with domineering Micheal being the oldest and playful Gabriel being the youngest.

The traditional sibling roles are strong in this dysfunctional family. Poor Lucifer could never be as mighty and righteous as his older brother and could never learn to simply have fun like his little brother. It's rough being a middle child. Sometimes the only way to alleviate the pain from lack of attention is by taking over the world.

5 Lucifer Means Morning Star

Many fans associate Lucifer with fire, damnation, and Hell and more than likely assume his name names something along those lines. While it's a good guess considering he's the ruler of Hell, Lucifer's name could not be further from these things. Lucifer actually translates to "the morning star" or "shining one".

This is quite the contrast from the fire and fury that Lucifer is often associated with. But Isiah 14:12 in the Bible is the perfect verse to clear things up for anyone confused on how Lucifer could mean morning star: How you have fallen from Heaven, O morning star, son of dawn!

4 Not Bowing Before Humans Sent Him to Hell

Many fans know that Lucifer was cast out of Heaven by his father, God, as he often talks about it in a way to get pity even though having problems with your father does not give you the right to try to take over the world. But why does Lucifer have these issues with his dad and how did things get so bad that God cast him out of Heaven?

Lucifer has a bit of jealous streak and couldn't handle his dad loving humans more than he loved Lucifer. When God created humans He commanded all angels to bow before this new creations but Lucifer refused as he thought humans were broken and flawed. When he refused to go along with what his father wanted, God had his oldest brother, Michael, kick him out to add salt to the wound.

3 Turning Lilith into a Demon Sent Him to the Cage

In season 3 Supernatural fans met the white-eyed demon, Lilith. She wasn't always known as the Queen of Hell though, she use to be a simple human. When Lucifer was cast out of Heaven for not bowing down to humans, he tried to prove to his father that he was right about his flawed creation by twisting and tempting Lilith's soul until she became the first demon.

Lucifer's father did not appreciate this little experiment and for punishment, He had Micheal lock Lucifer into the cage. Sometimes when children misbehave, parents are forced to put them in a timeout for a few thousand years so they can really think about what they did.

2 He was the First Fallen Angel

While many angels in Supernatural have taken the plunge as fans saw at the end of season 8, there was one particular angel who started this trend. His name is Lucifer. Lucifer became quite the trendsetter when he fell out of Heaven and became the first fallen angel.

Many of the angels merely landed on Earth, but Lucifer's hard fall sent him straight to the depths of Hell. Lucifer was cast from Heaven due to his refusal to follow orders but not all of the fallen angels rebelled quite as much as Lucifer, his was a tough act to follow.

1 Lucifer is Associated with Pride

Peter Binsfield, a German bishop and theologian, theorized that each prince of Hell represents one of the seven deadly sins. According to Peter Binsfield everyone's favorite antagonist, Lucifer, is associated with the sin of pride.

While Lucifer is also greedy, envious, and wrathful, pride does seem to make the most sense for him since his pride is what got him cast of Heaven. Lucifer was too proud to bow down to humans as he believed mortal people were beneath him. But like Darren Bateman said, "Once you reach the top, take care as the only way left to go is down." And down Lucifer went.
