Star Wars 9: Palpatine DID Create Anakin, Says Clone Wars Voice Actor

Voice actor Sam Witwer from Star Wars: The Clone Wars says that Palpatine did in fact create Anakin Skywalker. Witwer started his Star Wars career when he voiced Starkiller and Emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game in 2008. Witwer has lent his voice for several Star Wars video games and TV shows, but he may be most well known for voicing Darth Maul on The Clone Wars and in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Throughout the original trilogy, fans had wondered who Darth Vader's father was, especially since the father/son dynamic became such a big part of Luke and Vader's storyline. Fans were hoping to get answers when Lucas announced his prequel trilogy focusing on the rise of Anakin Skywalker, but fans weren't overly fond of the explanation. Qui-Gon Jinn believed that Shmi Skywalker's pregnancy was a result of the Force, revealing that Midi-chlorians were responsible for creating Anakin Skywalker. For a while, fans have thought that Palpatine could have played a hand in creating Anakin to ensure the Sith would rule the galaxy, and the revelation that Palpatine created Snoke in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker even supported this theory. Now, Witwer has shared his opinion on this theory.

In a recent tweet, Witwer explained that he thought it was possible that Emperor Palpatine created Anakin Skywalker. Just recently Lucasfilm Story Group member Matt Martin confirmed that Palpatine did not create Anakin, with Darth Vader comic writer Charles Soule supporting Martin saying, "The dark side is not a reliable narrator." Witwer also said in one of the comments that he disagrees with Martin's opinion on the matter. Witwer's full post can be read below:

Anakin's parentage is never discussed in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but that is because people were more concerned with wrapping their heads around the idea of Rey being a Palpatine. In Darth Vader #25, it's suggested that Palpatine used a Sith incantation to make Shmi pregnant, which would make the Emperor a father-of-sorts to Anakin. If this were the case in the sequel trilogy, this would have meant that Rey was actually related to Anakin, just like Ben Solo was.

While Palpatine creating Anakin will always be an interesting theory, it's highly unlikely that it would ever play out on the big screen. If Palpatine did create Anakin, Disney definitely would have talked about this in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Having Anakin be the product of Sith manipulation would have been a huge plot point to skip over in the film, especially since it was the end of the Skywalker saga. That being said, if the theory does ever become canon, it would make people look at the Star Wars prequel and original trilogies in a very different light.
