Even though Tony Stark proudly called Pepper Potts' armor suit designated Mark 1616, Potts quickly named it "Rescue," and that's exactly what she's having to use it for in 2020 Rescue #1.
While Pepper Potts has been keeping Tony Stark in check at home and at Stark Industries since 1963, her character Rescue didn't debut until 2009. In 2020, she'll be starting off the year with what appears to be another adventure as the tech-savvy Avenger's saving grace. That's what Rescue is all about, after all. She chose the name after rescuing Iron Man, Maria Hill, and Black Widow during World's Most Wanted in 2009. In 2010, she got a singular comic dedicated to her new character. If readers wanted more Rescue content to prepare for her new adventure, they could look to the 2010 issue Rescue #1. This comic, however, might be awkward for the couple. It takes place after Pepper left Tony and is trying to get her life alone in order. It seems his life might be in turmoil without Pepper's guidance and support.
While fans of the comic books saw the Rescue suit in the traditional Iron Man red and gold, it would appear that this new comic is going to follow the color scheme of the recent film edition of the suit. This color design is likely inspired by Potts' purple and silver suit in Iron Man: Armored Adventures, which then became blue and silver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, Potts wears that same suit across the pages of the comic book universe as well. Pepper Potts is characterized by her leadership and ability to get things done at Stark Industries, so fans can expect her to rise to the occasion.
Beyond Potts, the solicitation for this comic reveals some A-grade Tony Stark drama. Fans of Tony Stark and the sass he brings the current comics will most likely have a lot of dialogue to dig into when the secondary character of this issue is supposedly going through a "full-tilt, full-blown" meltdown. If you like heroines rising to the occasion and Avengers in post-breakup hazes that inhibit their abilities, then this might just be the concoction for you.
This Rescue 2020 series is a limited series and is written by Dana Schwartz and illustrated by Jacen Burrows. There will only be two volumes. It's arriving alongside the much-anticipated Iron Man 2020 series in which it appears a rise of machines will be the central point alongside a new Iron Man... Tony's long-lost brother Arno. Rescue 2020 will be available in March 2020.
