Marvel's MORBIUS Gets Even Grosser Before His Solo Movie

Warning: SPOILERS for Morbius #2

It seemed Morbius finally had found the cure to his Vampiric mutation, but once again, history has repeated itself. Instead of finding a cure for his hunger, Morbius has made himself much, much worse, as he is quickly evolving into his worst nightmare.

In Morbius #2, Morbius in anguish due to the effect of trying to cure his condition. He thought he succeeded in finding a cure after raiding Melter's warehouse and finding a serum that seemed to be the fix. Instead, the serum made him feral and transformed into an even bigger monster than he was before.

After scarfing down bags of blood, Morbius takes a closer look at his cellular structure. He discovers that not only is his hunger increasing, but his body is also reshaping itself. With his bones shifting, Morbius can feel the hunger inside of his bone marrow. He can't breathe, except to satisfy his enormous hunger. His worst fears are confirmed, as he sees his cells mutating after being activated by the serum. Morbius doesn't have control of his own body.

He is ambushed by Melter and a woman from his past he remembers as Elizabeth. He slowly pieces together she is the sister of his former lab partner and best friend Emil Nikos. Nikos dedicated himself to finding a cure for his friend's disease. He ended up being the first victim of Morbius. His sister is clearly out for revenge.

After being temporarily taken down, Morbius' strength grows. He takes a bite out of Melter, and throws him and Elizabeth across the room. His wings sprout as Elizabeth clears the room out after detonating a grenade. Morbius escapes to a nearby lab, where he feasts and continues to experiment. The blood has calmed him down, but Morbius doesn't heal easily as he hypothesizes Elizabeth knows about his weaknesses more than he does. Suddenly, an alarm goes off. One of the guards he took out wakes up and calls for help. Spider-Man shows up and tangles Morbius arms with webbing just before he's about to take out the guard.

It's clear Morbius's self-experimentation has backfired. He's hungrier, stronger and more out of control than he's ever been. His thirst is starting to cloud his judgment, leading to him almost killing Elizabeth and later, the guard. Thankfully, Spider-Man is there to stop him before he tears the guard to pieces. With a Morbius movie on its way starring Jared Leto, Marvel has reintroduced the character as dangerous as ever. Will the movie follow in suit and make Morbius as hungry as his comics counterpart? That remains to be seen. However, writer Vita Ayala is doing some really interesting things with Morbius that could definitely have future ramifications on the film.
