Spider-Man is Marvel's Next HULK (Yes, Seriously) | Screen Rant

A good Hulk comic book gives fans exactly what they're looking for from their favorite hero. But a truly great one delivers something they never knew they needed. Which is exactly what Marvel has cooked up with their latest announcement, passing the power of the Incredible Hulk to Spider-Man this January in Immortal Hulk: Great Power.

Its obviously an exciting time to be a fan of the Hulk, and not only because of Al Ewing's new series making Bruce Banner and his other half a true horror story. In the pages of the Absolute Carnage event, Eddie Brock's symbiote has decided it needs someone stronger, and instead merged with Bruce Banner to create the Venom-Hulk, crossing it off countless comic fan bucket lists. Now it seems the Hulk persona will be taking the same lead, ditching Bruce Banner for Spider-Man. And if the rage and strength of Hulk can turn Bruce Banner into a walking nightmare, just imagine the havoc he can wreak in a superhuman body like Peter Parker's!

The mash-up may only be temporary (obviously) but it stands a good chance of being fairly unforgettable, as well. Seeing Hulk bursting out of Spider-Man's iconic costume isn't something you see every day, and picturing something as massive as Hulk swinging from a web feels strangely impossible. But then, Tom Taylor has a knack for re-imagining heroes in horrifying fashion. Fans can mark their calendars for the issue's release, but in the meantime, both Spidey supporters and Hulkamaniacs can enjoy the first cover image for Immortal Hulk: Great Power #1 below:

Now the only question is exactly how the Hulk persona will be passed to Spider-Man at all. It isn't exactly a power or gift, and the plot synopsis for the issue confirms that mystery will be part of the fun. All we know is that Spider-Man will grow to be Hulk-sized, and possibly realize how much more of a burden other 'superpowers' can be. But what else do readers need to hear to convince them? Check out the full solicitation details and plot synopsis below:
