Comic legend Stan Lee is being honored at the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse world premiere this evening. Lee unfortunately passed away on November 12 at the age of 95. Since then, fans and coworkers have been mourning his death while also celebrating his legacy. Lee is best known for being a pioneer at Marvel Comics and creating and co-creating multiple characters such as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and of course, Spider-Man.
While Tom Holland is currently playing everyone's favorite web-crawler in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony still holds the rights to the character and is making their own set of Spider-Man movies. Apart from Into the Spider-Verse, Sony recently released a Venom solo film, and has plans to make adapt other Spider-Man characters as well. Sony has already made plans to bring Kraven the Hunter and Morbius to the big screen, but might also be adapting storylines for Silk, Jackpot, and Nightwatch. As for Into the Spider-Verse, the film will mainly focus on Miles Morales, but will also include other Spider-People like Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, and Peni Parker.

First revealed by Eric Goldman, an editor at Marvel Entertainment, the world premiere of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is honoring Lee by passing out exclusive pins. The pins feature Lee's iconic red sunglasses and are being worn by many people at the premiere. Chris Miller, one of the film's producers, also posted on Twitter sporting one of the Lee tribute pins. It has also been confirmed that Lee will get a tribute at the end of the actual film as well. Both of Goldman and Miller's Tweets can be seen below.
While the wide release for Into the Spider-Verse isn't for a few more weeks, the world premiere is tonight. So far, the film has been getting rave reviews from people who are lucky enough to see the film early. The film currently sits at a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and early reviews for the film have praised the movie for its incredible animated visuals. Sony also seems to be incredibly confident with the film since they are already developing an Into the Spider-Verse sequel and are submitting Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for animated Oscar consideration. The film also recently won the award for Best Animated Film of 2018 at the New York Film Critics Circle.
There is no denying that Lee had a huge impact on both the film and comic industry. Several of the characters he created have been adapted for movies, TV shows, and video games in recent years, and his legacy will never be forgotten. Lee is thought to be getting at least two more MCU cameos in Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be the first Marvel superhero movie to feature a Lee cameo since his death; with his cameo supposedly being "a really warm cameo" and "a welcome presence" according to the film's producers. While people attending the premiere of Into the Spider-Verse will no doubt have Spider-Man on their minds, Stan Lee will also likely be in their thoughts.
