Basketball player LeBron James is getting a biopic, with director Chris Robinson adapting his autobiography Shooting Stars into a feature film for Universal Pictures. Published in 2009, the book explores James' early life in Akron, Ohio, and his sports origins on the Amateur Athletic Union team after which the book is named.
James has been steadily building a side-career in Hollywood for some time now, with acting roles in the romantic comedy Trainwreck and recent animated film Smallfoot. His biggest upcoming movie is Space Jam 2, a reboot of the 1997 family film that starred Michael Jordan, which has been in the works for years but is finally moving forward with Terence Nance set to direct. In addition to hanging out with cartoon characters, it seems that James is also offering up his own life story to Hollywood as well.

Variety reports that Robinson will direct the adaptation of Shooting Stars, which was written by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Buzz Bissinger, and adapted into a script by Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier. An earlier draft of the script was written by Frank E. Flowers. Robinson is currently best known for his work on the Fox drama Star, and also directed several episodes of the comedic reality show spoof Real Husbands of Hollywood. The adaptation of Shooting Stars will be produced by James and Maverick Carter, Terence Winter, and Rachel Winter.
James is now one of the most famous basketball players in the world, and his career began with intense training in childhood (according to the book, the Shooting Stars played more than 80 games while James was in eighth grade). He won his first NBA game at the age of 27, playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but this year surprised many by signing on with the Los Angeles Lakers.
It's not exactly common for someone to already have a biopic in the works at the tender age of 33 - but then again, there aren't a lot of athletes like James in the world. It's unknown at the moment whether James himself will appear in the adaptation of Shooting Stars, but the movie is being produced under his film production banner Springhill Entertainment. The biopic is currently untitled, but we'll bring you more news about this take on James' early life as development continues. Meanwhile, James can next be seen playing against the Golden State Warriors with the Lakers on December 25.
