First Look At Sam Claflin In Peaky Blinders Season 5

Sam Claflin (Hunger Games, Adrift) is set to join the cast of Peaky Blinders season 5, and a new image showing his character may reveal a different sort of adversary for Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and the rest of the Shelby clan. The popular period gangster drama is set to make a bit of a change, as Tommy transitions into a different kind of scoundrel, now that he’s an elected official. It’s a new start of sorts for the series that will put a clever spin on the Shelbys’ usual brand of malfeasance by putting the head of the family in a much more public role.

As far as Claflin is concerned, he’ll be playing the part of a fellow politician who has a large part to play in both the future of the newly elected MP, as well as that of Britain itself. So far, that’s all the information that’s been released about Claflin’s new character, but given that he’ll be played by an actor of note, and that Peaky Blinders has seen fit to send out an official image of him, it’s a good bet this dapper gentleman will be making trouble for the new and returning cast members when season 5 finally premieres.

As reported by Deadline, the image show’s Claflin’s character looking every bit the powerful politician he is (or at least aims to be). It’s admittedly not a lot to go on for now, as the image convey’s very little. On the surface anyway, Claflin’s character is nothing like Adrian Brody’s season 4 villain Luca Changtretta, who basically announced himself as a criminal from the jump. But with Changretta dealt with, and another time jump on the horizon, it looks as though Peaky Blinders is ready to introduce a rival who brings a different form of sophistications to the rough and tumble series. Check out the image below:

With so many original characters gone, including Tom Hardy’s memorable Alfie Solomons and Annabelle Wallis’s Grace Burgess, Peaky Blinders season 5 will see a replenishment of the ranks, so to speak. Joining Claflin in bringing a little new blood to the series will be Brian Gleeson (Phantom Thread) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, New Mutants). A first look at her character was also recently revealed, though, like Claflin, details on who she’s playing are currently under wraps.

If nothing else, Peaky Blinders’ ability to attract new talent in its fifth season is an indication that the show is still going strong. If that’s the case, then creator and writer Steven Knight’s recent comments that the show could continue on through season 7 may not be a bad idea at all.
