Arrow May Finally Deliver On The Show's Suicide Squad Promise

Arrow season 7 could be taking the first steps toward bringing back the Suicide Squad. Arrow's version didn't last very long, and disappeared from the show completely after DC pulled the plug due to the Suicide Squad film. However, a team-up between Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White) in the latest episode could rectify that.

The Arrowverse's Suicide Squad was formed in season 2 by Amanda Waller. The team consisted of highly-skilled criminals tasked with performing missions at the behest of A.R.G.U.S., with Deadshot, Cupid, Shrapnel, Bronze Tiger, and Captain Boomerang all serving as members of Task Force X at one point or another. The Suicide Squad only had one appearance in season 3 and hasn't been heard from since. It's worth noting that most of the characters associated with the team are now dead. One exception to that is Ben Turner aka Bronze Tiger, who re-emerged in the season 7 premiere of Arrow as an inmate of Slabside and an ally of Brick (Vinnie Jones).

In last week's episode of Arrow, Oliver Queen's friend Stanley (Brendan Fletcher) framed Turner for the murder of a prison guard. After unknowingly incriminating Turner for a crime he didn't commit, Oliver attempted to apologize to Turner; when the latest episode saw Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) launch an attack on Slabside, Oliver convinced Turner to help him. Their plan worked, and Oliver promised to help Turner cut a deal with A.R.G.U.S after he got out of prison.

Though it may be too soon to call Turner one of the good guys, one thing this episode made clear is that Bronze Tiger isn't irredeemable. The character still has the potential for good and if let out of prison, could end up becoming a valuable ally either to Oliver - or to A.R.G.U.S.

Is Bronze Tiger's return to Arrow a sign that a new Suicide Squad is on the way? DC wanted the Suicide Squad out of the Arrowverse so that there wouldn't be two versions of the team, and since Suicide Squad 2 in development, it would make sense for DC to stick to that rule. However, recent years have seen plenty of overlap between DC TV shows and films. Soon, there will be both TV and DCEU versions of Supergirl, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and more. Two of DC's most iconic characters, Superman and The Flash already exist in the Arrowverse and the DCEU.

If DC is starting to become more relaxed about which of its characters can make it to the small screen, the idea of Suicide Squad returning to the Arrowverse may not be too far of a stretch.
