Umbrella Academy TV Show Gets Release Date & First Look Images

Netflix's Umbrella Academy TV show gets brand new first look images as well as a February 2019 release date. In addition to pursuing romantic comedy and teen-oriented movies and TV shows in recent years, the streaming giant is also trying to break into the comic book realm. They're not only producing their own comic book series, such as the recently announced Mark Millar's The Magic Order, but they're also developing their own comic book shows to compete with all the other broadcast and cable networks out there, not to mention streaming services.

One such TV show that has caught the attention of general audiences and comic book fans alike is The Umbrella Academy, which is based on the comic series of the same name created and written by Gerard Way. There have been three limited series thus far (with a fourth on the way), ever since the first iteration released in 2007, and Netflix is planning on bringing those stories to life on the small screen in the coming months. And to kick off their marketing campaign for the new property, they revealed some key details today during their panel at New York Comic Con 2018.

It was revealed during the Netflix and Chills panel at NYCC 2018 today that the streaming service had set The Umbrella Academy's release date for February 15, 2019 - a Friday, of course. Furthermore, they also showcased a trailer during the panel, which has not yet released online. Instead, they've released new first look images of the cast, which includes Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Mary J. Blige, and more. Take a look:
