MCU Fan Determines the Only Marvel Hero Who Hasn't Killed in the Movies

With several months to go until the next Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie arrives (Captain Marvel in March 2019), one enterprising fan has killed some time by determining the one MCU hero who hasn't killed anybody. That may come as a surprise to some fans, since these Marvel movies tend to focus more on the heroic acts, and not catastrophic damage and/or deaths caused by them. But if you really take a closer look at everything that has happened in the MCU, it's not so surprising that every hero but one has blood on their hands.

By their very nature, superhero stories, whether they be in comic book form or cinematic/episodic form, revolve around death. Every story has a hero and villain and at the end of each story, it's almost a given that someone will die, whether it be the hero (i.e. Thanos snap), villain (i.e. most Marvel villains) or any number of people who are just in the wrong place at the wrong time (i.e. everyone in Sokovia). Just as death is a part of life, it's a part of superhero stories in general, so with all of that being said, it's actually kind of surprising there is only one hero who has not taken a life in the MCU.

Reddit user tehplanefreak started this discussion, claiming that there are actually two MCU heroes who have never taken a life: The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).  However, an argument was made that Spider-Man was given an "assist" in the death of Ebony Maw (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor), since it was Spidey's idea that lead to him being sucked out of the spaceship, even though Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) gets credit for the actual death itself. That leaves The Wasp as the only MCU character who hasn't either killed, or assisted in a killing, in all 22 MCU movies. In that same Reddit thread, another user T0M95 put together a Google Sheets spreadsheet that breaks down every death thus far, including killer, method, and who got the "assist."

That all could change, though, since The Wasp has been confirmed for Avengers 4, although Evangeline Lilly recently confirmed The Wasp is barely in Avengers 4. It's possible that The Wasp could still keep her zero-casualty rate intact by the time the credits roll on Avengers 4, but given how little we know about the story, and the increasingly unpredictable nature of the MCU movies as a whole, certainly anything is possible. Still, given both Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Wasp's unique powers/skills, they'll likely be a welcomed addition to the fight in Avengers 4.

Some fans may hope that The Wasp does keep her streak alive, or if she does happen to kill someone, it'd be nice to see it have a rather profound effect on her. Death is treated in such a nonchalant sort of way throughout the MCU, with certain notable exceptions like Thanos' snap. Given all of the damage and death that the Avengers and most of the other MCU heroes have either directly or indirectly caused, it would be rather intriguing to see a character like The Wasp be deeply affected by taking another human life, to contrast all of the other MCU deaths, some of which have been "deserved," like the villains, but most of which, like the countless collateral damage, have not.
